Patagonia
In November of 2022, Xan and I went to Chile and Argentina. We flew to Santiago, and then down to Patagonia where we drove from Puerto Mont to Puerto Rio Tranquilo and back along the Carretera Austral. Afterwards, we went further South and visited Puerto Natales, El Calafate, El Chalten and Torres del Paine. We even got to watch the World Cup in Argentina with new friends which Messi and Argentina went on to win. The food, people, street dogs, and views were all spectacular.
A beautiful painting we found on the street in Santiago, a preview of where we were headed
A typical moody scene along the Carretera Austral
Chilean magic
Calm water in the fjord by the village of Puyhuapi
The food was excellent and the cheap prices allowed us to get delicious meals almost every night
Beautiful evening light at Lago Carrera
We drove several hundred miles down the Carreterra in our rental car, and then turned around and drove back. We met lots of street dogs along the way
Next we flew to Puerto Natales and crossed the border to El Calafate, Argentina
The massive Perito Moreno glacier flowing off the Southern Patagonia ice cap
Next we arrived in the incredible village of El Chalten
Where we stared at the mighty Chalten and Cerro Torre
The famous Patagonian winds only let up on one morning to fly up the drone
We went back into Chile and made one last stop at the impressive Torres Del Paine
Los Cuernos
We spent a few last nights again in Santiago with a view of this beautiful park from our hotel, and made it home after one of my all time favorite travels. Some videos from the trip can be seen below:
